NAIFA-New Hampshire Week in Review

Written by NAIFA-New Hampshire | Feb 14, 2025 4:51:34 PM

The NAIFA-New Hampshire Government Relations Committee partners with J. Grimbilas Strategic Solutions, LLC. to lobby on the issues important to our industry, our products and services, and our clients. J. Grimbilas Strategic Solutions, LLC. has been front line advocates to advance NAIFA-New Hampshire's legislative and regulatory priorities for many years. They've provided this week's update on recent committee meetings, bills they are following, and legislative issues they've identified as being of interest to NAIFA.

House Commerce will be in on both Tuesday and Wednesday. On Wednesday morning, they will hear HB 517 (state run PFML repeal). You may recall that former Governor Sununu vetoed several bills that would have created a mandatory state run program funded by an assessment on paychecks. Eventually, he was able to sign a voluntary program into law. There were members of the Republican caucus that did not support either approach.  They will make their case for a repeal. In the afternoon, they will hear HB 774 (Medicare Supplemental policies). This will be a newer issue for the committee. They have not had a bill on this issue recently.

The House is scheduled to meet on Thursday. There were no bills on the docket of interest to NAIFA-NH. As you will see in the calendar, House Commerce will not meet in executive session until March. There will likely be a lot of bills headed to the floor after that executive session. The Senate does not meet in session next week. The following week is school vacation week in NH. The Legislature attempts to align a break at the same time (Feb. 24-28). There will likely be very little legislative activity that week.

Governor Ayotte presented her budget address to the House and Senate yesterday. Generally, she highlighted the need for re-calibrating state spending while making specific investments.
